London Youth Rowing

Rowing toward a broader future

London Youth Rowing provides opportunities for young people between 14 and 16 from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop their behaviours and capabilities for a successful future through access to rowing.

Since 2014, they have been running the “Breaking Barriers” programme. This initiative combines sport (rowing), mentoring sessions and practical project management in a partner company – often organising a rowing event for the teams. The objective is to develop the life skills of young people (e.g. teamwork, leadership, time management, communication skills) to broaden their future aspirations and opportunities for education, training or employment.

Funding provided by the VINCI UK Foundation: £10,560.

As this programme expands to more and more schools, in an increasingly broader area, providing transport means to ensure all students are able to travel to sessions and arrive on time is becoming necessary. This grant will help London Youth Rowing in this.

VINCI Sponsors:

  • Francois Pogu, project director, VINCI Construction Grands Projets
  • Lilia Hanana, IMS manager, VINCI Construction Grands Projets

Lilia and Francois already are and will continue to be involved in the project as Mentors for the young people within the “Breaking Barriers” programme.
