2nd Rossendale Scout Group

2nd Rossendale Scout Group

2nd Rossendale Scout Group has been awarded £5,000 by the VINCI UK Foundation to refurbish and upgrade the kitchen of the Scout Group.

The Foundation is supported by Bachy Soletanche, part of the VINCI Energies group; the Bachy Soletanche Sponsor support on managing the project delivering and ensuring that the project is used to its maximum.

The organisation has a typical set up for a Scout Group, namely, beavers, cubs and scout sections, which undertake typical activities around developing leadership and social skills, but also undertake projects that are community based (teas and dinners for the elderly, concerts,…). The group also has a marching brass band section which comprises of four bands (Training, Junior, Silver and Senior). The total band membership comprise 80+ musicians ranging in age from 5 to 70+ years old. Youngsters are offered free lessons and access to an instrument. The Silver Band provides a similar opportunity for parents, carers and grandparents who would like to learn to play an instrument. Both the Junior Band and the Silver Band do concerts for free. The Senior Scout Band has gained a massive reputation both locally and nationally and play as many as 50 concerts a year, most of the time in aid of charities. The Scout HQ is also used by external organisations as a venue for them to hold their activities.

2nd Rossendale Scout Group requested support from the VINCI UK Foundation to finance the refurbishment and upgrade for the kitchen. The current kitchen is only set up to allow basic catering (tea/coffees and small cold snacks) and in poor state of repair due to its age and also due to the significant amount the kitchen is used. The project would entail renewing the kitchen and also upgrading the facilities so that a wider range of events could be held there.

Marc Evans, a Business Unit Manager, and his family are to supporting the group and help youngsters develop a talent and improve their self-esteem. Marc’s knowledge in project management will also support and be beneficial in getting the project delivered on time and to budget. Beyond completion of the project, Marc’s help will be beneficial in ensuring that the project is used to its maximum.

The VINCI UK Foundation, funded by VINCI businesses across the UK, supports groups and charities which work to tackle exclusion, foster community integration and improve access to employment and housing. Launched in early 2016, the Foundation is unique in its support for good causes due to its specific focus and provision of skilled volunteers.

Through the Foundation, all VINCI’s employees, from apprentices to senior management, can use their experience and skills to benefit their local communities.
